Plex Media Server running on Apple Silicon M1 chipset i.e.
Setting your mac to permanent 24hz will affect the UI only in that scrolling and things like that would be choppier. I’ll give it a try, if not I’ll try to figure out how to get a hold of plex since they don’t have any real support.
Unfortunately the signal has to switch every time, so your tv will reset every time. In which case, you want to use the adjust refresh rate option. So you are still going to get pulldown unless you actually use a 24hz output. Your tv probably does not actually accept a 120Hz signal, nor can you output one anyways (I assume you are using HDMI, which I do not think can even accomodate a 120Hz signal). If you are capable of setting your output to 120Hz and your tv will actually accept a 120Hz signal that would be best. Since you can't do a native 120Hz from the mac to the tv, you will still have a pulldown performed since you are sending 24 frames on a 60Hz signal.
What settings should I use to get the purest cinema experience? Should I switch the framerate to match the movie AND use the A/V sync method? Should I also try SwitchResX to try and get as close to 23.976 as possible? Any help would be appreciated Has anyone found a way to completely eliminate this (using SwitchResX) or some other method? I only notice it during long horizontal pans, high paced action sequences (or scrolling credits at the end). (I still output 60hz from the Mac-Mini display settings) That is Step 1Īll that aside, many people recommended that I have set the A/V Sync to ON (with audio resampling) and noticed that the judder issue happens every 80-100 seconds now. It is used primarily with Plex for streaming DVD and BD rips from my QNAP-NAS over a gigabit wired network. I just want to be getting best 24p experience possible using PHT. Now, one of my main questions, in trying to understand how framerates work is.if I have a native 120Hz TV, and I have my Mac set at 60HZ output.will Plex deliver 24p without needing to switch the TV to "24hz mode"? (Since no 3:2 pulldown is required?) Or do I have to set Plex to "adjust framerate with video"?-which results in my TV blanking and resetting every time I start/stop a 24p movie. If it was a little glitchy then it may have been because the network spam from your TV was slowing it down or increasing I/O to your drives. Apparently, the GPU (Intel HD4000) or OSX can't handle the 23.976 vs 24 discrepancy, resulting in a frame skip (judder) every 41 seconds.
And it happens in files with bitrates 15mbs or 45mbs so seems to be exclusive of bitrate. It doesn’t seem to make a difference if it’s mkv or MP4. This only seems to be an issue with 4k 10bit videos codes in h.264 or h265. It just stutters or jerks then will smooth back out. When playing the same media on my older AppleTV’s they play fine. All my files are in M4V containers ripped using MacDVD Ripper Pro. For some reason a lot of my video’s stutter when playing back on the 4K AppleTV. I have 3 standard AppleTV’s and one 4K unit.
Have the HDMI connected directly to Samsung Native 120hz 1080p LED HDTV (for both audio and video).Īfter experiencing it myself and after some lengthy searches, I have discovered the "41 second" judder issue, though I only notice it when I'm really looking for it. It doesn’t effect the sound and the app doesn’t give the buffer wheel. I’m running Plex Media Server on a QNAP TVS-671 with a Core i5 Intel processor. Using latest Plex Home Theater as client and PMS 0.9.9.10 as the server (both on the Mini). Just bought a late-2012 Mini 2.5ghz i5 w/ 8gb RAM as my HTPC. Build help and build shares posts go in their respective megathreads They cant play high-bitrate video without stuttering (on way better hardware). Having said that, Shield TV has limitations and is not an ideal media server for Plex. However, the Shield TV has decent Plex server hardware and can also function as a good Plex server.
